Citizen-Activist Resources

  • Oregon Student Public Interest Group (OSPIRG)
When consumers are cheated or the voices of ordinary citizens are drowned out by special interest lobbyists, OSPIRG speaks up and takes action. We uncover threats to public health and well-being and fight to end them, using the time-tested tools of investigative research, media exposés, grassroots organizing, advocacy and litigation. OSPIRG’s mission is to deliver persistent, result-oriented public interest activism that protects consumers, encourages a fair, sustainable economy, and fosters responsive, democratic government.

  • Frontier Group
Frontier Group produces ideas and research to promote a cleaner environment and a fairer and more democratic society. The Fontier Group partners with organizations on the ground in states across the country and in Washington, D.C., to disseminate our work and improve public policy.

  • The Fund For Public Interest Research (FFPIR)
The Fund for Public Interest Research is a national nonprofit organization working to increase the visibility, membership and political power of the nation’s leading environmental and progressive groups. The Fund for Public Interest Research is best known for its canvass programs. Over the years The Fund has developed the nation's largest and most effective network for door-to-door and street canvassing—signing up members in high traffic, public places. The Fund signs up sustainers—members who commit to automatic monthly contributions from a checking account or credit card—as well as one-time contributors. The Fund for Public Interest Research works with Environment Oregon in Portland and other cities throughout Oregon.

  • ONE/Northwest
A network aimed at helping environmentalists in the northwest take advantage of electronic media. Their website has a conservation directory of 1,100 groups and much, much more.

  • Project Vote Smart

  • Bill Tracker - The Oregonian
Every Oregonian citizen-activist needs to know where the bills they care about are in the legislative process.  The Oregonian provides a good tracker - even if it is somewhat delayed because the legislature is slow in their updates.

  • Bus Project
Founded in 2001, the Bus Project has mobilized thousands of volunteers and activists around the state of Oregon and throughout the country. The Bus Project is youth-focused in its work, and its work includes voter turnout, progressive political and policy forums, direct advocacy, and the PolitiCorps fellowship program.
