A New River for a New Year
As we all know, the Willamette has been plagued by pollution for decades. But with the New Year, it’s time to give Oregon a new, clean Willamette River.
In Oregon, our waterways play a significant role in determining the success of the business community. Polluted waters discourage recreation and tourism. And with $2.5 billion spent on fishing, hunting and wildlife-related activities annually and $8 billion spent on travel and tourism within the state, clean waterways are essential to a prosperous business community.
In Oregon, 53 percent of our streams are unprotected from polluters, including the Willamette’s tributaries, because of recent Supreme Court decisions weakening the Clean Water Act. Luckily, we have the opportunity to restore the Clean Water Act to its original purpose this New Year.
Support Oregon’s business community by signing on to this business coalition letter addressed to our U.S. Representatives. Urge our Representatives to give Oregon a new river for the New Year: A Clean Willamette River!
