Repower America

What's new

The president has asked Congress to adopt his energy plan. But big oil, the coal industry and other powerful interests have hired more than 2,000 lobbyists to stop him. That’s nearly four lobbyists for every member of Congress.

They’re hoping their political access and influence, as well as their  campaign contributions, will mold the plan to preserve the status quo. We’re bringing the debate to front porches, kitchens, living rooms and town halls across Oregon and America. Thousands of us are telling Washington that we want to repower America with clean energy so we can rebuild our economy and end the climate crisis.

Take action

Oregon's Congressional Delegation Can Lead the Way.

Call on your member of Congress, asking them to commit to repower America with clean energy, protect our environment, and transform our economy in the process.

Overview

It’s time to repower America.

We’re working to cut global warming pollution 35 percent by 2020, make the big polluters pay for their mess, and invest in clean energy, efficiency and our future.

Consider that:

• Enough wind blows in just four states — Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota — to supply all the electricity that America uses in a year.

• Enough sun shines on just nine percent of one state -- Nevada -- to supply all the electricity that America uses in a year.

• Money invested in making our buildings more efficient creates seven times more jobs than investing the same amount in coal.

• We can put thousands of Oregonians back to work — building wind turbines, installing solar panels, making more hybrid and plug-in hybrid cars, and helping us save energy in our homes.

President Obama’s plan would:

• Cut global warming emissions from power plants and other sources.

• Hold big oil, the coal industry and other polluters accountable, and make them pay for their pollution.

• Invest this money in clean energy, energy efficiency, our families and our future.
